Documentary & Animation: Best of 2018

Best Documentary

This was a stellar year for documentary features. The box office and critics were roaring, and the top five for me were a mix of hits and under-the-wire features:

Hale County This Morning This Evening

MATANGI/MAYA/MIA

Minding the Gap

Three Identical Strangers

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Runners-up:
Crime + Punishment
RBG
Jane Fonda in Five Acts

Best Animated Film

A little Pixar, a little indie, a little French, a little Japanese (and that was kinda dupicated), and the most spiders since Arachnophobia; animated films has a lovely range this year!

The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales

Incredibles 2

Isle of Dogs

Mirai

Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse

Runners-up:
Ralph Breaks the Internet
Lu Over the Wall
Birdboy: The Forgotten Children
