Final Oscar Predictions 2016

Better nominations than last year, I anticipate a lot of La La Land.   Reading my predictions from last year, I was not very hopeful with my predictions.  I actually really liked La La Land, but I’m really not a big fan of sweeps.  Record breaking can be fun though.  Let’s see what I’m expecting on Sunday:

My Final Predictions:

Best Picture:

Will win: La La Land

Though Moonlight could certainly slip in for the steal (and should), I am pretty sure La La will win.

Might win: Moonlight

My choice: Moonlight

Best Director:

Will win: Damien Chazelle – La La Land

Whiplash proved they were interested.  La La Land proves they are in love.

Might win: Barry Jenkins – Moonlight

My choice:Barry Jenkins – Moonlight

Best Actor:

Will win: Casey Affleck – Manchester by the Sea

I don’t think his sexual assault violations caught up with him with enough power to dissuade a win.

Might win: Denzel Washington – Fences

My choice: Viggo Mortensen – Captain Fantastic

Best Actress:

Will win: Isabelle Huppert – Elle

I actually foresee the foreign idol winning.  Her role is a standout, and as much as La La is dominating, Huppert has been winning everywhere.

Might win: Emma Stone – La La Land

My choice: Isabelle Huppert – Elle

Best Supporting Actor:

Will win: Mahershala Ali – Moonlight

He’s swept up a lot of attention in the underdog BP nominee.  His filmography helps, too.

Might win: Jeff Bridges – Hell or High Water

My choice: Mahershala Ali – Moonlight

Best Supporting Actress:

Will win: Viola Davis – Fences

Should’ve just won for The Help, Viola; but no, you had to category fraud all over Streep’s theft.  Damn Meryl, always causing problems.

Might win: Michelle Williams – Manchester by the Sea (but yeah, it’s Viola)

My choice: Viola, but I’m not happy about it.

Best Original Screenplay:

Will win: Manchester by the Sea

Kenneth Lonergan is well liked, and the film is not forgotten.  I think he’ll get it.

Might win: La La Land
