They Shall Not Grow Old (2018): Documentary Review

Peter Jackson’s World War I documentary They Shall Not Grow Old may be another recollections for the soldiers on top of restored footage, but the way he structures the story of boys going off to war highlighted the fear, agony and life changing (and pointlessness in many cases) in war. Trapped in flooded, rat and cadaver filled trenches, The Great War is brought into surprising vivid life and color, focusing more on human impact than military strategy. The soldiers brought themselves into danger to fight a battle against boys on the other side, and They Shall Not Grow Old makes their memories heard.
